Among the Pines: A Candid Family Session at Kiwanis Park

Some sessions just feel extra special from the start—and this one, set among the tall pines of Kiwanis Park in Post Falls, was one of them. The light filtered perfectly through the trees, the setting was peaceful, and this sweet family of four brought such a genuine connection that it made documenting their story feel effortless.

It wasn’t just another session for me—it was one of those moments that reminded me exactly why I love what I do with Vintage Heart Photography.

A Model Call Turned Memory-Making Magic

Every once in a while, I open a model call to the community—it’s a way for me to get creative and connect with new families. This mama responded, and let me tell you... she understood the assignment. From the outfits to the energy she brought, she went above and beyond.

The moment we met at Kiwanis Park, I knew we were in for something special. Their kindness, patience, and total love for their littles set the tone for the whole session. And even with two tiny tots in tow (a curious toddler and a snuggly newborn!), she stayed calm, cool, and incredibly sweet. The vibes? Immaculate.

Toddler + Newborn = Photo Magic (and a Little Chaos)

Let’s be real: getting photos with both a toddler and a newborn can feel like herding cats with strong opinions. But it’s so worth it. This session reminded me just how special these early days are. Toddlers bring the energy, the giggles, the running-around-in-circles joy. Newborns bring the snuggles, the quiet moments, the sleepy cuddles. And when you mix those two worlds in a forest of pines? You get the kind of gallery that tells a real story—one full of laughter, love, and the tiniest toes.

Pro Tips for Families with Toddlers & Newborns

If you’re thinking of booking a family session with littles like this sweet crew, here are a few tips to help make the experience smooth and stress-free:

  1. Dress for Comfort & Connection. Mama nailed the wardrobe here—neutral tones with cozy textures. Flowy dresses, knits, layers. Nothing stiff or too matchy-matchy. Keep it soft, earthy, and comfortable.
  2. Snacks. Always Snacks. Low blood sugar is the enemy of good vibes. Bring something non-messy and quick to munch (puffs, fruit snacks, anything bribery-worthy). Bonus points for goldfish—they don’t stain and toddlers will work for them.
  3. Let Go of “Perfect” Some of the most beautiful images come from in-between moments—toddlers picking up pine cones, mamas rocking a baby who just won’t nap, or dads playing catch me if you can with squealing toddler! I’m here for the real stuff.
  4. Be Present, Not Posed. Don’t worry too much about looking at the camera. I’ll guide you into the best light and let the magic happen naturally. Candid is the new classic.
